The Family Karate ULTIMATE WEAPONS Program is a weapons
only program that is designed to give students access to Martial
Arts weapons in a well controlled and structured environment.
Weapons training adds another element to the student’s
understanding of the Martial Arts.
The ULTIMATE WEAPONS program teaches both traditional
Okinawan weapons kata (known as Kobudo), and creative
katas (katas primarily designed for tournament competition).
Traditional Weapons
The traditional Okinawan Kata are from the Kokusai Rengokai Kobudo System. This is the system of Shugoro
Nakazato, the Grandmaster of Shorin Ryu Shorinkan Karate Do, of Naha City Okinawa, Japan. The system has 13
formalized forms, using various weapons.
• Bo (wooden staff)
• Sai (trident)
• Tonfa (side-handled baton)
• Nunchaku (wooden flail)
• Kama (sickle)
• Eku (boat oar)
Creative Weapons
The creative forms taught are fast paced, exciting, and meant to stand out in forms competition. We have had several
students win Grand Championships with many of our creative forms. And we challenge our students to add
embellishments to these forms that personalize and improve the performance aspect of them. It is very challenging
and entertaining to see a student take these patterns and them their own.
Creative weapons taught are single nunchaku, double nunchaku, bo staff, kama, and flying kama.
Ultimate Weapons is held once per week, and is a great way to challenge yourself and improve yourself as a Martial
Artist overall. This program is for all ages, and a program that is enjoyed by children and their parents at the same
time. A great family adventure.
