Thank you for taking the time to stop by our website & find out a little more about who we are and what we do at Family
Karate - Top Mount Martial Arts, LLC - in Downtown West Plains.
Family Karate - Top Mount Martial Arts is a positive environment that is
enjoyed by many families. We take pride in the fact that our dojo is a
place where the whole family can come together to learn & have a good
time. Of the 80+ families who are involved with the activities and
programs at Family Karate, more than 50% have more than one family
member training in our programs.
At Family Karate, youth students and adult students alike train in the
same traditional Karate curriculum. This has been found to be a real
benefit when mom or dad want to spend time with the kids working on
their karate, self defense, or kata together. Many parents have
commented that this gives them even more quality time with their
children & that it helps everyone by learning the same thing, taught
by the same instructor, in the same way. Mom and dad can help the
kids when they need it, and in some cases - the other way around!
Teaching the same Karate to both young students and adults not only
helps them learn, but makes the transition to the adult class seamless
when the younger students reach the age that they change from the
youth to the adult program.

cornerstone of our martial arts & it is why we are who we are. The foundation of the
martial arts is well in tact at our dojo & gets better every day. Our traditional system
of Shorin-Ryu is one of the original karate styles formally systematized in Okinawa
and considered by some to have had the most influential impact on the development
of modern karate systems.
Having an instructor whose rank is recognized (and verifiable) by an organization with
such deep roots, you know that you and your family are earning real rank in a real
system that is directly tied to Okinawa. One that is being taught the same way in
hundreds of dojos around the world, the same way it has been taught for the last
100+ years. Several times each year, members of our Shorin Ryu Shorinkan
organization get together and enjoy each other's company at training camps, while
making certain that the karate being taught at each location is still the same, and
regularly updated/corrected by Kyoshi and Hanshi leaders of the organization from
Okinawa and the US.

Family Karate - Top Mount Martial Arts is located conveniently in Downtown West Plains, near Court Square and the West
Plains Civic Center. Our 3,200 square foot gym features over 2,000 square feet of mat space, with seating for up to 50
visitors & spectators. We offer boys and girls separate changing rooms, and a separate restroom so there is never a long
line to wait in for any reason. Most parents stay and watch the lessons, but with the convenient location and parking - other
parents take advantage of some nights to get caught up on errands.
